1979 Audi 200

Audi continued its habit of producing new model designations by upping the power and equipment levels on a cooking model – in this case by adding a turbocharger to the 100 to create the 200. The new model was priced to compete with the BMW 528i and could easily outgun what was considered the pacesetter of the class. And it wasn’t restrained – its quad headlamps looked brutal, while the chintzy velour-clad interior took some getting used to. A rare beast, but far more characterful than the car it was based on.
