1958 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia Convertible

After the hardtop version of the Karmann-Ghia proved such a success, Volkswagen and Karmann didn’t take too long to come up with a convertible version. It was unveiled in late-1957 to much the same level of appreciation as its tin-lid sister. Extra strengthening made the convertible heavier and therefore slower than the coupé, but that didn’t matter to those who admired this fresh air fashion statement; America of course loved it. The car started life with a rear-mounted air-cooled 1192cc engine, which gradually increased in size through 1285cc and 1493cc to 1584cc.
