1969 Austin 1300 GT

British Leyland’s attempt at injecting some entertainment and passion into the 1300 was quite successful. Imagine a Mini-Cooper grown plump on pies, and you have some idea of what this racy 1300 was like. The twin carb engine was tuned to MG/Riley spec and lairy colours such as orange and yellow were offered, complemented by that essential black vinyl roof. 58bhp was the norm for an Austin 1300, the GT had 70bhp and a thoroughly entertaining 93mph capability. A cult following these days is proof that Minis don’t have all the fun!
