1992 Jaguar XJ220

When the XJ220 was unveiled at the 1988 British Motor Show, the crowds were awe-struck. The V12 powered 200mph supercar had been developed by engineers in their own time and promised to beat the Italians at their own game. Deposits were taken, and production was promised for 1990. Two years later, and the V6 powered twin-turbo XJ220 was a very different beast – still capable of over 200mph, its MG Metro 6R4-derived engine didn’t have quite the same appeal. Buyers demanded their deposits back and sales were rather slower than anticipated.
