A new era for Rolls-Royce was ushered in with the Silver Cloud in 1955. The company started building bodies in-house, although many customers still preferred to have their favourite coachbuilder construct something special. But such was the imposing elegance of the Cloud’s standard body that many buyers never felt the need to shop elsewhere. The 4887cc engine was an enlargement of that which had been used in previous models. In addition to the standard 123-inch wheelbase cars, a 127-inch limousine was offered with bodywork by Park Ward.
