Heavy-hitter from Thames Ditton uses a six-inch-extended Cobra chassis clothed in bodywork – steel this time – by Frua from Turin. Passing resemblance to Frua’s Maserati Mistral, but only handles and door-glass frames are shared. Engine is the 7.0-litre Ford Galaxie V8 used in some Cobras, but the 428 was still no bargain. The cost of the bodies and shipping chassis to and from Italy meant prices were 20% higher than for Astons and Jensen Interceptors. The AC simply wasn’t special enough to justify that and only 51 coupés were sold in six years.
