A Toyota 2000GT valued at more than €750,000 was destroyed a couple of months ago when a 30m tall tree fell on it. The car is one of 351 2000GTs were made between 1967 and 1970, with two special convertible versions of the model being created for the 1967 James Bond movie You Only Live Twice, starring Sean Connery.
Miraculously, the car’s driver escaped serious injury when the hefty beech fell directly on top of the car on a Japanese road.
The beech was growing in a preserved area, where cutting down plants and trees is banned, even if they grow close to the road.
Usually a car in this condition would be written off, but I won't be surprised if someone tries to salvage this due to the fact its such a rare car and important piece of sports car history to Toyota.
