Drive System:

The original Sunbeam Alpine was a stylish two-seater convertible version of the Sunbeam-Talbot 90. It shared the saloon’s effective suspension set-up, but was powered by an 80bhp 2.3-litre in-line-four also used in the Humber Hawk. It was a heavy car, and didn’t offer sparkling performance, but it proved good enough to take outright victory in the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally. The Alpine was designed with the American market in mind, hence its soft ride, but failed to make the grade there, dropping out of production after just two years.
